The Dickinson Guest House is now located just a short distance away from it's previous much smaller home. It is is conveniently located in the upscale Chapalita neighborhood, not to be confused with Chapala, which is a retirement community about an hour away on the lake. It is close to all shopping and the downtown city sites and equally the distance from the new Puerto Hierro (Plaza Andares ) area of this ever growing city. We are situated between the old and the new for easy access to both! New links have been added to our never ending links page to include the official websites of the Pan American Games XVI that we are proud to be hosting in 2011,and the annual Guadalajara International Book Fair. Several venues for the events are minutes away from this property. It would make an excellent large home to rent while coming to Guadalajara for this festive occasion. The house can accommodate 8 + adults with plenty of space to spread out. For those attending the anual Book Fair at the Expo Center at the end of November, 2010, we are 6 blocks away. This is the largest and most important Book Fair in all of Latin America, with over 40 countries in participation. Again, a perfect location for those people looking for conversation areas to "visit and discuss" with other scholars and book lovers other than busy and overpriced hotel lobbies. Check our links page for updates on both of these events. And don't forget the annual Guadalajara Mariachi festival at the end of August every year. It is held only in this great traditional city of Guadalajara, Mexico. The program for the 2009 festival can be found under the link of Conaculture, again on the LINKS page of this website. The program schedule for 2010 will update on the Conaculture link when it is time.

A taxi to the house is very inexpensive from the airport or bus station (approx US$20/240 pesos). For general travel and tourist information click here.
There is secured parking on the property itself, and ample parking on the street, usually right in front of the house. Please check into your insurance rates, as many do not cover all of Mexico. A car is convenient, but a taxi is easier and actually more affordable if you get your fares "up front." Inquire when you arrive. I know the taxi fares for this general area.
Directions from Airport: Buy your taxi ticket at the kiosks right outside of the customs clearance. Tell them you are going to Hotel Posada Guadalajara on Lopez Mateos Sur / De Las Rosas, or zona 5. It will cost exactly 240 pesos or around US$20. as of March, 2010. Try to have the pesos in advance to get a better rate than at the airport. Taxis will be lined up outside. Once you are in the taxi, tell them to go to the hotel. My house is two blocks behind the hotel, so it is a good landmark.
The house address is Calle San Uriel 338. If your plans have already been made to stay here, PRINT OUT THIS INFORMATION NOW, AND KEEP IT WITH YOUR PASSPORT! One less thing to think about and forget during the last minute rush!
Directions from the Central Bus Station: The same as above and the taxis are right outside. You will need to pay inside at the taxi kiosks and get a ticket to give to the driver. The cost is around 120 pesos or US$9.00, and takes about 15-20 minutes, same as the airport transportation time. Please note that there is a new bus terminal located in Zapopan which is much closer to the house. It is the stop just before the old bus station just southeast of downtown. You will save probably an hour of travel and a good share of cab fare if you get off here. It completely bypasses the very congested downtown district.
