Dickinson Guest House

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Where is the guest house located?

A. The Guest House is located just west of the downtown historical sites in what is now the centralized area of this large city. Every adventure you would like to visit is pretty much the same distance more or less from this very lovely and safe part of the city. It is self sustaining; close to stores, shopping, great restaurants etc., all within walking distance. It is a nice middle class area of the city bordering the more exclusive municipality of Zapopan. Because the size of the city has grown, they are now actually one, just differently named. We are located in between the historical old downtown and the extremely upscale Puerto Hierro (Plaza Andares) area that is the newest part of this metropolis. A good visual reference to our neighborhood would be the Newly opened Riu Plaza Guadalajara Hotel that sits if front of the new suspension bridge that moves traffic away from our quiet area. It is good to see both sides of this fascinating city, and all else in between. See contact page

Q. How do I get to your Guest House?

A. The CONTACT US page on this site Can be printed out to put with your passport that has all directions needed for your driver. It has maps and directions to the property from the airport, bus terminals and driving directions.

Q. Are meals included?

A . A continental breakfast awaits your waking hour if you are a B&B guest. There are other breakfast items to cook at will, 24/7. Other meals can be prepared at any time, as well. You may use the kitchen at any hour of the day, respecting the needs of other guests. There is ample space in the oversized refrigerator/freezer and cabinets for your purchases. The kitchen and dining room is stocked with all cookware and dining utensils. Drinking water is always chilled in the refrigerator, as well as lots of purified ice from the freezer door, whole cubes or crushed, ready for blended beverages. Your bedrooms are stocked with purified water as well. As mentioned on this site earlier; fruit, pastries, coffee and tea is always here for your morning wake-up. The breakfast items you enjoy will be stocked for you.

Q. Are there any stores or shopping close by?

A. There are several stores within a few blocks, of every need, and a large Soriana Supermarket 3 blocks away. A new Superama just opened for a more upscale shopping experience and is visible from the front of the house. It is very convenient and very welcomed new store here in Chapalita. There are also American stores such as Walmart, Sam's Club, and Costco for a USD$5/60 peso cab ride. Large theatre complexes and new multi-level malls with higher end clothing etc, are in the same area. This is a very self contained neighborhood, including some of the best trained and highly respected plastic surgeons and dentists that many visit too from all parts of the U.S. and Canada; and recently from Australia.

Q. Are taxis easy to obtain?

A. Yes. One can be called for you, or you can flag one down while walking. Ask for fares in advance or ask them to turn on their meter. Do not get into a taxi until the meter has been turned on or an agreed amount has been established. We are more than happy to negotiate your taxi prices for you.

Q. How close are you to downtown?

A Now that the new tunnels have been finished, as well as the new suspension bridge, that doubles the speed of traffic in this area, a 10 to 15 minute taxi ride at no more than 60 pesos, or a scenic bus ride for 6 to10 pesos will take you to the center of the historical district. This is the fast way. You can always request to have the driver take you above ground to see the sites and give you more of a feel for directions, but it will take a little longer because of traffic lights. Often, a bus can be faster because of it's size and prowess on busy streets! This centralized location is also almost the same distance to the new upscale stores and restaurants in the newer Plaza Andares section of the city. We are also a short ride to the very fine art communities of Tlaquepaque and Tonala. They make excellent day trips for tourists to this city.

Q. Is the downtown historical district the main attraction to this large city?

A. It is certainly one of the cultural centers of any large city. I have loved it for 20 years, even with all of the changes. But it is always nice to come back to a slower pace after a day of site seeing, just a little bit away from the crowds that are always present in large cities. A good rest makes up for more fun times later. Although an important place to see with all of the rich architecture and history, this guest house is right in the middle of old and new. From this guesthouse, in the opposite direction of almost equal distance is the newly opened Plaza Andares. Fine boutique shopping and very fine dining all in one place in the newest area of this metropolis, as well as historical central Zapopan, which is actually larger than Guadalajara. It's main square that is near the Basilica de Zapopan is becoming a lively nightlife destination along with shops and eateries of all types.
